What is Zapain?

Zapain is a brand of pain relief medication. Zapain contains both paracetamol and codeine, making it an effective way to manage pain. The generic version of zapain is called co-codamol.

    Can I take zapain?

Zapain should never be taken by anyone under the age of 12 years old. Like all medications, situations can arise which make zapain unsafe to take. You must check with your doctor before taking diazepam if you:

    • have experienced an allergic reaction to either paracetamol, codeine or any other medication

    • suffer from severe kidney or liver disease

    • have asthma or any other breathing problems such as bronchitis or emphysema

    • have recently had a head injury or suffer from increased pressure on the brain

    • drink a lot of alcohol, or have struggled with alcohol issues previously

    • have recently had an operation on your gall bladder

    • are currently experiencing diarrhoea

    • are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have been taking them within the last two weeks

    • are elderly or particularly vulnerable regarding your health

    • have any unexplained stomach pains or other sudden problems in your abdomen

    • have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland

    • have problems with your adrenal glands

    • suffer from an enlarged prostate gland or a narrowing of your urethra

    • are concerned that you’ve been taking zapain for a long time – your body can become dependent on the medication which can lead to harm, therefore it’s important to only use zapain short term

Does zapain have any side effects?

Like all medications, zapain does have side effects. However, most people do not experience any side effects at all whilst taking the medication.

Possible side effects to zapain include:

    • Nausea

    • Vomiting

    • Light headedness

    • Dizziness

    • Sleepiness

    • Stomach pains

    • Constipation

    • A feeling of extra wellbeing

    • Disorientation

    • Pupils shrinking

    • Unexplained problems with vision

    • Headaches

    • Pulse slowing down

    • Difficulty in passing urine

    • Liver damage

    How do I take zapain?

It’s important to follow the dosage instructions that a medical professional has recommended to you. However, usually the recommended dosage of zapain is one/two capsules to be taken every four hours. You must not take more than eight capsules during a 24-hour period.

Zapain must not be taken alongside alcohol. You must swallow the capsule whole, without biting or chewing the capsule.

You must not be taken during pregnancy as this can seriously affect your baby. It is known to be safe to take zapain whilst breastfeeding, as the levels of active ingredients in zapain in breast milk are far too low to cause any problems to your baby. However, some women who take a higher dosage are at risk of side effects developing in their baby. If your baby shows any of the following side effects, you must seek immediate medical attention:

    • Feeling sick

    • Vomiting

    • Constipation

    • Lack of appetite

    • Tiredness

    • Extended sleeping

    • Slow breathing

What if I take too much?

If you know that you have taken more than your recommended dosage, then we advise that you seek immediate medical attention. Even if you feel well with no clear signs of a health concern, there is a risk of liver damage which will not be felt immediately. It’s important that when visiting this professional, you bring your remaining medication and full knowledge of how much zapain you have taken.

What if I forgot to take it?

If you accidentally forget to take your dose of zapain, you must take your next dose at your normal time. Do not take more to compensate for the missing dose as this will interfere with your medication schedule.
